H&M Giant Profits and Expansion Plans

H&M Tops Profit Estimates, Plans 400 New Stores

Europe's second biggest clothing retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB (also known popularly as H&M) reported that their fourth quarter profit exceeded all estimates as the company added stores in the US and China. In just three months the net income rose to 6.22 kronor, an equivalent of $760 million. H&M will now be expanding online, offering an extended selection of shoes and sportswear in an effort to fend off rival companies such as Asos Plc and Primark. The company also plans to introduce H&M Beauty as a new line of makeup and personal-care products some time this year. H&M aims to open a total of 400 new stores during this fiscal year, as well. Be on the lookout for a new H&M store near you!

Giant Polar Bear in London

A giant polar bear took the tube in London today

A giant life-size polar bear has been making it's way around London as a PR stunt for new Sky Atlantic TV show Fortitude. Created by 19 Hollywood prop specialists, it took six weeks and used 60 different types of materials in it's creation. Tom Wilton and Derek Arnold operated the 8-foot polar bear after studying real life polar bears in preparation. There has even been a tiny camera built in the front of the bear linked up to monitors so that the puppeteers can see where the fluffy guy is going!

Check it out!

King Tut's Burial Mask Irreparably Damaged

Hasty fix causes irreparable damage to King Tut's burial mask

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo made a grave mistake when three of the museum conservators attempted to repair King Tut's beard with a epoxy-based adhesive. Later, one conservator admitted that the adhesive was unsuitable to such a restoration and that the mask should have been taken to a lab. All three conservators recount that they were given strict orders to "quickly restore the mask" as the museum was in a rush to get it back on display--due to these orders, they used the quick-drying material in place of standard actions. The epoxy left a clearly visible gap of gold between the beard and the mask. It appears that the person applying the epoxy accidentally got some on the face as well, and in trying to remove it, several scratches were left on the face. This slapdash attempt at fixing King Tut's exhibit has now resulted in permanent damage.
